Blaise spent a good part of his formative years competing and became a gifted ski racer. When he was 18, he was even asked to open the longest downhill course in the world: the Lauberhorn in Wengen, Switzerland. So when he invited us to go see the 82nd edition, we didn't hesitate. Especially when it involved these two lovebirds...
...and a 4-minute helicopter ride to the start of the race!

When I say it's long, it's L.O.N.G. The course is 4.5 km (2.8 mi) and descends steeply towards Wengen, resulting in 2 1/2-minute run times. Needless to stay, you need thighs of steel!

We watched a few racers at the start, then headed down the course towards what looks like an anthill...
This is the most popular part of the race: the "Hundschopf" or Dog's Head, the Lauberhorn's signature jump over the rock nose. It may not look like a lot of people, but when you bring it to scale...
Yes, a lot of people cheering on their favorite racers. This is a world cup ski race after all!
To top it off, a Swiss skier, Beat Feuz, won the race!
